First time skiing?

If this is your first time coming out to the mountains and giving skiing or snowboarding a go, here is a checklist for you to run through so you can feel all prepared before hand. If you have any questions, then please let us know as we are more than happy to pass on any advice.

Clothing

  • The most important part of your body to keep warm is your hands and feet so its worth finding suitable gloves and socks as cold hands and feet is not much fun.
  • When buying jackets and sellopetes, check the waterproof levels as some jackets may look good but will not keep you warm, so ask the shop to ensure its level of suitability.
  • For children, you can rent ski wear as they do grow out of it very quickly so hunt around your local outdoor shops or online retailers.
  • Helmets – Children have to wear them on the slopes but we also recommend adults wear them whatever your level. You wont see many seasonnaires without them and apart from anything they keep your head warm!
  • Thermals – if you are a particularly cold individual then invest in some thermals to go under your clothes and jacket. Good layering of clothes is another trick to keep warm.

Equipment

  • Hiring kit from local providers is great as the equipment is normally new that season so it’s in good condition.
  • You can hire, skis, boots, snowboards, poles, and helmets. They will ask for your level of experience to ensure the right equipment is suitable but we can advise you on this to ensure you get the right kit.

Lessons

  • If you have never put a pair of skis or a snowboard on, or have only nhad a go at the local snow dome, we insist you have at least one lesson as the snow in the mountains can feel different and if nothing else, the lessons teach you the mountain rules so you respect the area and others around you. That is for your safety as well as other skiers and boarders as it can get very busy during high season. As well as this we can guarantee you will have more fun after!

Area

  • The childrens club is at the top of the short lift from the village.
  • The nursey slopes are up one chair lift but the chair has the faciltities to bring skiers back down if they do not have the capability to ski down the mountain, so even if you go up a chair lift, you don’t have to ski back down and the lift people are very friendly and will slow the lift down for you.
  • On arrival, we are more than happy to go with you to get your equipment, sort out lessons if you haven’t pre-booked and take you to your first lesson so it all comes that little be easier for you.

Additional Info

  • Insurance – Don’t leave home without it and ensure it covers the whole family for skiing as sometimes, you have to pay an additional charge for ski cover.
