Everything you need to know
Heading to Peisey Vallandry for your ski holiday and not sure where to start with ski lessons?
The different schools with different lessons and different options can sometimes be overwhelming. Don’t stress though – it’s not as difficult as it may seem.
Whitebeam have got the low down on ski lessons with New Generation’s Peisey Vallandry ski school – what you can expect and what they have on offer.
Here’s our interview with them:
How does the week of ski lessons begin?
We start at our Peisey Vallandry meeting point each day where your instructor will meet you, and then head out for your lesson.
The meeting point is situated at the bottom of the Vallandry chair lift (No 74), just in front of the Bistrot Savoyard. It is immediately adjacent to the main lift queue, on the right hand side.
New Generation ski and snowboard instructors can be easily spotted in their bright blue uniforms.
What ski levels do you teach?
From wobbly first-timers to experienced mountain goats, we teach all levels, and have different courses to fit different people’s needs.
How many ski lessons should I take?
For first timers, we recommend 5 days of group lessons. These run for just 2hrs in the mornings, leaving your afternoons free to practice on your own and ski with family and friends.
This way, you get continuous feedback and further instructor as you progress throughout the week.
If you’re more experienced and looking to fine tune some skills, but don’t want to be committed to a lesson every day, join our Clinics.
These run for 2hrs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, and are perfect for getting off a plateau or polishing up your skills.
‘Backcountry Skills’ course in Peisey-Vallandry
Keen to try something different? Advanced skiers can also give our Backcountry Skills courses a go.
Choose from either Intro to Off-Piste or Intro to Ski Touring/Split Boarding.
We also have one-off guided adventures for more advanced skiers. On or off-piste, our instructors will show you where they spend their days off.
We offer privates, starting from 2 hours to all day, which are tailored to your fit your needs.
What about children’s ski lessons?
Our children’s group lessons run for 5 or 6 days and are small and friendly, based around learning in a play environment.
Little ones (ages 4 and 5) who are skiing for the first time – or Whippersnappers as we like to call them – ski for 2 hours per day.
With games, learning through play, and learning to love skiing, those little legs wear out quickly so 2 hours is best introduction to skiing.
All other kids groups, ages 5-13, ski for 4.25 hours per day*.
The long mornings gives them a lot of time with an instructor, and gives them the ability to ski further afield and explore the massive resorts they’re so lucky to ski. And giving mum and dad a bit more time to go ski on their own is a nice perk as well!
Most lessons will take a hot chocolate break in the middle of the lesson and aims to finish on a high with a challenge or activity.
*during peak weeks
